About Misrata

A holiday to the North African country of Libya promises to be a wonderful experience for the whole family. Explore this magnificent kaleidoscope of hills, mountains, oases, beaches, and meadows, while learning about the profound history the country is shrouded in. The cities of Libya boast many magnificent architectural designs and sculptures each beckoning to a significant period of the often turbulent history the country has found itself embroiled in.

Today, though, this proud nation has worked hard to put its controversial past to rest and remains a pivotal link between the Arab, African, and Western worlds. With warm and welcoming hospitality and many marvelous sites to discover and explore, a vacation to Libya will leave you breathless, fascinated, and mesmerised. One of the popular destinations is the city of Misrata (or Misurata), which is well-renowned for its tribute to modernity and in particular to the outstanding modern Libyan architecture. Misrata also has a higher quality of life than most of the country’s other cities with the new steel mill and expanded port bringing in greater wealth and an increased population.

To the west of Misrata is what the locals call the largest sand dune in the world, while the Koztik Memorial Tower is also a sought-after site in the city. Koztik Tower is impressive, yet odd in the way it has been erected on top of a sand dune but strengthened by a concrete carpet. Misrata is also home to a stunning collection of good-quality carpets, while the area is lined with large groves of date palms and olive trees, further exuding an ambience of tranquility and serenity.
